Baseball Gets Shut Out at Anderson
ANDERSON, SC -- Bryson Graydon shut down Catawba as Anderson snapped an 18-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory in baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Trojans improve to 17-27, while the Catawba Indians fall to 19-12.
Graydon allowed just six hits and struck out five in tossing the shutout. Blake Ketner (Davidson, NC/NW Cabarrus HS) scattered 10 hits and allowed both runs over seven innings of work for the Indians. He struck out four.
B.J. Smith collected three hits for Anderson and scored the initial run in the first inning. After leading off with a single, Smith moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a two-out single by Blair Carson.
Three straight singles after two were out in the fourth led to the second Trojan run. Thomas Padro singled to start things and scored on a single by Derek Hipp. Hipp and Matt Hill each had two hits for Anderson.
Catawba stranded six runners and also hit into a pair of double plays and had a runner picked off base. The Tribe loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but Graydon got an infield pop up to end the threat. Kevin McMillan (Salisbury, NC/N. Rowan HS) and Zeb Link (Woodleaf, NC/W. Rowan HS) each had two hits for the Indians.
