Softball still seeking initial league win
SALISBURY, NC -- Presbyterian College swept a South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader from host Catawba on Friday afternoon at Whitley Field. The Lady Blue Hose won by the scores of 6-0 and 7-1 to improve to 22-23 overall and 6-4 in the SAC. Catawba fell to 13-33-1 and 0-10. Presbyterian snapped a scoreless tie in the third inning of the opener on a two-out double by Jana Waters (Liberty, SC). The Lady Blue Hose would add four more runs in the fifth, all with two outs to build its 6-0 edge. Stephanie White (Eatonton, GA) had a RBI triple, while Nicki Templeton (Clinton, SC) had a two-run single. Brooke Norris (Anderson, SC) allowed just one hit, an infield single to Val McDowell (Crofton, MD) in the fifth, over her five innings. She walked one, hit one and struck out five in the win. Whitney Hannon (Greer, SC) walked one batter in two innings of relief. The Lady Blue Hose would again come through with two outs to take the lead in the nightcap. Beth Pearson (Athens, GA) helped her own cause with a two-run double in the fifth, then scored on an error to give Presbyterian a 3-1 lead. Catawba had grabbed the lead in the fourth as Cari Griffin (Olney, MD)reached on an error, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch. Presbyterian would put the game away in the seventh, scoring four times. Ashley O'Daniel's (Alpharetta, GA) two-run double was the big blow. Pearson tossed a one-hitter on the mound, walking one and striking out six. Griffin had the lone Catawba hit with a single in the first. #######RELATED LINKS
