SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba scored the final three goals and claimed a 10-8 win over visiting Florida Southern in Deep South Conference lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians improve to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the DSC, while the Moccasins fall to 4-6 and 1-4.
Catawba opened quickly with a three-goal burst for an early lead. Stephen Shuba (Orlando, FL/Olympia HS) had two of the goals. Florida Southern answered with three straight of its own, the final two coming by Seabrooke Carter (Annapolis, MD) to tie the game at the 11:01 mark of the second quarter.
The game went back-and-forth from there and was tied 8-8 at the half and 9-9 after three quarters. Carter scored the last of his four goals just 29 seconds into the fourth quarter to give Florida Southern an 8-7 edge. Marty Tuohy (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) tied the game for Catawba with 12:33 to play and Sean Duggan (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh HS) scored the final two goals to give the Indians the win.
