Snyder pitches Baseball to split at LR

HICKORY, NC -- Catawba College and host Lenoir-Rhyne split a key South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Bears Field. Zach Snyder (Lexington, NC) tossed a shutout in the opener for a 1-0 win, while the Bears battled back for a 12-2 win in the nightcap. Catawba fell a half game out of first place and stands 25-18 overall and 10-6 in the SAC. Lenoir-Rhyne is 27-16 and 8-9. Catawba scored the openers lone run in the sixth inning and that was enough for Snyder, who has not allowed an earned run over his last three starts and has kept league teams off the board for 24 straight innings. Lenoir-Rhyne threatened in the third, but Israel Campbell was thrown out at the plate on a ground ball to first with runners on the corners and one out. He was the only Bear to reach third base. With two outs in the Tribe sixth, Josh Jordan (Gastonia, NC) doubles down the leftfield line and Israel Morrow (Claremont, NC) followed with a double of his own to plate the lone run. Lenoir-Rhyne got runners to second in the sixth, eighth and ninth, but failed to score. Mike Robbins (Columbia, SC) collected three hits in the opener for Catawba, while Morrow had a pair of hits. Lenoir-Rhyne jumped on the Indians with a four-run second in the nightcap and went on to pound out 15 hits in the 12-2 win. Dustin Day had four hits for the Bears, while Campbell was 3-for-4. Chip Bradford had three RBI. Morrow went 3-for-4 for Catawba, while Chad Hill (Bennett, NC) had two hits. #######
