Lyerly's Hot Bat Garners SAC Baseball Player of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba third baseman Craige Lyerly (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) and Tusculum pitcher Max Keleher were named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Position Player and Pitcher of the Week. It was announced by league officials on Monday. For Lyerly, it marks the second time this year he has earned this honor.
Lyerly, a 6-0, 175-pound junior, extended his hitting streak to 24 games with hits in all seven games last week as the Catawba Indians posted a 5-2 record. In the seven games, he hit .586 (17-of-29) and scored 10 runs. Lyerly enjoyed four-hit games against both Pfeiffer and in the weekend opener at Brevard. Lyerly also scored runs in all seven games, with his solo homer at Brevard that gave the Tribe a 5-4 lead.
Keleher, from Port Charlotte, FL, tossed a six-hit shutout in Tusculum's 7-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne. Keleher limited the league's top-hitting team to only six hits and didn't allow a base-runner to reach third base all night. He also recorded six strikeouts in the victory.
The SAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week are selected by a vote of the league’s nine sports information directors.
