ETOWAH, NC -- Carson-Newman led wire-to-wire to win the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship, which conluded on Tuesday at the 5,852-yard, par-72 Etowah Valley Country Club.  The Lady Eagles take the title in their first year fielding a team.  Catawba finished third at the Championships and were led by first team All-SAC selection, Kelsey Babos (Uniontown, OH/Lake HS), who was runner-up at the tournament.

Carson-Newman was led by medalist Sarah Jane Sinard, who shot three consecutive rounds of 75 to finish with a 225 total.  The score ties a SAC Tournament record.  Sinard matches the 225 posted by Catawba's Paige Haverty in the 2006 SAC Championship.  Babos finished two shots back and had a tournament low round of 73 in Monday’s second round.

Carson-Newman won the title by 15 shots over runner-up Wingate.  Catawba finished third with 999.  Babos earned all-tournament honors, along with Eileen Purpur (Boone, NC/Watauga HS).  Purpus was seventh, shooting a pair of 80s, to make the second team.
