Cook Named SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba College freshman Steffi Cook, of Alpharetta, GA, has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending April 19. Cook, who plays #3 singles and #2 doubles, helped the Catawba Indians to three league wins last week over three straight days.
Cook won all three of her singles matches and added a pair of doubles wins on the week. In a 5-4 win over Lincoln Memorial, the former Milton High School standout won two points for Catawba. She also won in singles and doubles in an 8-1 win over Newberry and added a singles win in a 7-2 victory against Carson-Newman.
The freshman did not drop a set in her three singles wins and posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in the matches vs. Lincoln Memorial and Newberry. On Tuesday, Cook won the lone point in the Lady Indians' 5-1 loss to Wingate in the SAC Tournament. She finished the year with an 18-3 record and went 7-1 in SAC matches. In doubles she posted a 12-7 mark.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the league’s Sports Information Directors.
