Baseball Moves Back Into National Rankings; Climbs to #4 in Southeast Region Poll


INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Catawba moved up to fourth in the latest NCAA II Southeast Region baseball rankings.  The Indians, now 22nd in the national poll, has guaranteed its spot in the regional tournament which will be held May 14-17.  The NCAA announcement on official pairings and site of the regional will be made on May 10. 

Catawba (35-16) gets the automatic qualifier from the South Atlantic Conference after its dramatic conference tournament championship.  The Indians won twice on Sunday over top-seeded Tusculum by the scores of 11-10 and 4-3.

USC Aiken remains the top ranked team in the region.  Two other Peach Belt Conference teams follow in Georgia C&SU and Francis Marion.  The PBC has one more week of play and the conference tournament the following weekend which will decide the league’s automatic bid.  Belmont Abbey has also secured a spot in the regional by winning the Conference Carolinas Tournament.  The NCAA will select three at-large bids to join the conference champions.
