Swimming Announces Year-End Awards
The Catawba swimming program had its post-season dinner recently and named the winners of several team awards. The Swimmer of the Year awards went to junior Patrik Drakes (Stockholm, SWEDEN) and sophomore Katie Huff (New London, NC). Drakes was eighth in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA II Nationals, earning All-America honors. Huff set school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, while earning all-conference honors and swimming a NCAA “B” cut.
Other awards went to Christoffer Stolt (Stockholm, SWEDEN) and Kara Morrill (Rockville, MD) for Rookie of the Year. Both helped in dual meet action as well as scoring at the conference meet. Stolt set school records in all of the relays as well as the 50 and 100 fly. Morrill set the freshmen records in 1000 free and 1650 free.
The Most Improved awards went to Patrick Novak (Bethlehem, PA) and Melaney Porter (Geddes, SD). Novak dropped tremendous amount of time in the 100 and 200 breast during the season, while Porter consistently dropped times in all her event through the year. Grant Gibson (Owen Sound, Ontario, CANADA) and Kira Capano (Waynesville, NC) earned the Scholar Athlete Awards, while the Animal Award Dedication and 100% at practices went to Alex Walpole (Colorado Springs, CO) and Kara Burian (Waldorf, MD).
