Higgins and Houston Earn All-State Basketball Honors
Catawba senior Brittany Higgins (Takoma Park, MD/Blair HS) and junior Antonio Houston (Charlotte, NC/E. Mecklenburg HS) have been named the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State basketball teams. Both claimed spots on the second team after leading their teams in scoring this season.
Higgins averaged 12.1 points per game this season and eclipsed 1,000 career points in her final game. She finished with 1,009 points and became just the 12th Catawba female to surpass the milestone. She scored in double figures 17 times and tallied 20 or more in five contests, including the season finale where she led the way with 20 points in a conference tournament loss.
Higgins also chipped in with 4.1 rebounds, 59 assists and 30 steals. The guard shot 42% from the floor and 63% at the line.
Houston paced the men’s team with an 18.2 scoring average and was second on the team, pulling down 5.2 rebounds a game. He stood fifth in the conference in scoring and 16th in rebounding and was named the South Atlantic Conference Tournament MVP.
With one year remaining, Houston stands fifth on Catawba’s all-time scoring chart with 1,654 points. His 581 points this past year was the eighth highest season total in school history. Houston could become just the third player to reach 2,000 career points as an Indian.
