BLOG: Interning at the Canadian Embassy

Cyle Petersen (men's tennis), son of Terry and Valerie Petersen, and a junior at Catawba College, is from Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada. He will be spending eight weeks this summer studying and interning in Washington D.C. in Georgetown University's Fund For American Studies Program.

He will be enrolled in the Englatchiff Institute for Comparative Political and Economic Systems and will be interning full-time at the Canadian Embassy in Washington D.C. He will be receiving full credit for his coursework and internship and wants to share his unique experience with the rest of the Catawba community over the summer through a blog posting.

Cyle will be working at the Canadian Embassy weekdays from 8:30am to 5:30pm and will commute back to Georgetown University to attend class from 6pm to 9pm. Included in the program is a distinguished lecture series that has, in the past, included key-note speakers such as the Secretary of State, Treasury, Commerce, and various international diplomats and ambassadors. The Fund for American Studies Program also includes a mentorship program in which Cyle will be placed and will include recreational activities like Washington Nationals games, guided tours of the city at night, and themed barbeques.

He is currently majoring in political science at Catawba with an emphasis in international relations. When he is not busy studying he enjoys keeping up with current events, playing tennis on the Catawba Men's team, working out, and hanging out with the many good friends he has.

Cyle was honored this past year by being named a Junior Marshal and was inducted into the Alpha Chi Honor Society. He was recently named the recipient of the prestigious Nolle Scholarship from the national Alpha Chi Honor Society.
