Former Catawba baseball standout, Jerry Sands, has been named the Pioneer League Player of the Week for the week ending July 6.  Over seven games for the Class A Ogden Raptors, Sands, who has seen time in both right field and center field, went 16-for-32 (.500) with two home runs, two doubles, a triple and eight RBI.  He had a game-winning double for the Raptors in an 11-inning win over Orem on July 1.

Sands is currently leading the Pioneer League in batting average and home runs.  In 13 games he is hitting .373 with five homers.  Sands has hit in his last 10 games, including 12 hits in 20 at bats over a four-game stretch last week.
