Men's Soccer Opens 2009-10 Athletic Season Tonight Against Pfeiffer
The Catawba men’s soccer team will open the 2009-10 athletic season on Thursday night as it hosts Pfeiffer at Frock Field at 7 p.m. The Indians are guided by first-year head coach Liam Farrell and return seven starters from last season.
Catawba will hope to improve its offense from a year ago when it scored just 17 goals in 18 matches. Only four players scored multi-goals on the season with returners Kevin Sorensen and Andrew Landry sharing the team lead with three goals apiece.
Goalkeeper Tyler Held was a bright spot last season, posting a 2.68 goals against average with a pair of shutouts. He saved nearly three of every four shots on goal and notched 15 saves in a 1-0 overtime loss to Mars Hill.
Catawba will also play at home on Saturday night, hosting North Greenville at 7 p.m.
