Women's Soccer Suffers First Defeat at Hands of #12 AASU
MILLEDGEVILLE, GA -- Kristin Burton scored a pair of second half goals as 12th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic claimed a 3-1 win over Catawba in women’s soccer action at the Bobcat Shootout on Sunday afternoon at Georgia College & State University’s Bobcat Field. The Pirates improve to 3-1, while the Catawba Indians suffer their first loss and fall to 1-1-1.
After a scoreless 30 minutes, Erin O’Rourke put AASU on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute. She fired home a rebound off the post on a shot from Burton. Catawba knotted the score with just 25 seconds left before the half as Kaitlyn McFarland (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/Satellite HS) scored off assists from Merrit Rollins (Columbia, SC/Lippen HS/W. Carolina) and Kristen Girardi (Asheville, NC/N. Buncombe HS/W. Carolina).
Armstrong Atlantic recaptured the lead just 1:27 into the second on the first of Burton’s two goals. The reigning PBC Player of the Year added another goal in the 56th minute.
