Women's Soccer Victorious in Home Opener With Shutout of Mount Olive
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba scored three times in the opening half and claimed a 3-0 win over visiting Mount Olive in women’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-1-1, while the Trojans fall to 0-3-1.
Catawba opened the scoring eleven minutes into the match as Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, MD/N. Hagerstown HS) drew a foul in the box. Andrea Dunshie (Apex, NC/SE Raleigh HS) converted the penalty kick for the early lead.
Just over three minutes later, Katie Gair (Milton, Ontario, CANADA/St. Mary Catholic) found the net when her shot floated over the Trojan keeper. Kaitlyn McFarland (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/Satellite HS) closed out the scoring in the 39th minute on a breakaway goal.
Catawba keepers Chelsea Binder (Woodstock, MD/Mount Hebron HS) and Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) combined for the shutout. The duo faced just one shot which came in the closing minutes. Lyndsey McIntyre (Leesburg, VA) turned back five of the 12 Lady Indian shots.
