Men's Soccer Blanked By Aiken
AIKEN, NC -- USC Aiken’s Fernando Gamez had a goal and three assists as the host Pacers defeated Catawba 7-0 in men’s soccer action on Monday night at Pacer Pit. USCA evens its record at 2-2, while the Catawba Indians fall to 1-4.
Gamez delivered his first assist to Troy Watson, who put the Pacers on top in the 27th minute. Two minutes later Corey Adamson added to the total on a breakaway. Watson got the assist a Gamez goal in the 37th minute and the Pacers grabbed a 4-0 lead at the break on a tally by Scott Newby.
Two more goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half stretched the Pacer lead to 6-0. USCA held a 22-9 edge in shots, including an 11-2 advantage in the opening half. Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) and Ross Willard (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) shared goalkeeping duties for the Indians. Held had a pair of saves in the first half, while Willard stopped four shots after the break.
