Women's Soccer Notches Second Straight Shutout
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba recorded its second straight shutout with a 2-0 win over visiting Barton in women’s soccer action on Monday night at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 3-1-1, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-4.
Andrea Dunshie (Apex, NC/SE Raleigh HS) got the opening goal for the second game in a row, drilling a shot from 30 yards out into the upper right corner. The goal came in the 13th minute. The Lady Indians added a second goal just two minutes before the half. Freshman Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, MD/N. Hagerstown HS) waited on a Marissa DiMarco (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern HS) cross at the back post and headed home her first goal of the season.
The Catawba defense made the two goals hold up, keeping Barton from attempting a shot in the final half. Chelsea Binder (Woodstock, MD/Mount Hebron HS) stopped both Bulldog first-half shots and combined with Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) on the shutout.
Catawba held a 14-2 edge in shots. Angelina Lovette (Lillington, NC) made seven saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
