SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba rallied from a two-goal deficit and claimed a 3-2 overtime win over visiting Chowan in women’s soccer action on Erinn Wescoat’s (Egg Harbor, NJ/Absegami HS) tally in the 103rd minute Wednesday night at Frock Field. The win improves the Catawba Indians to 4-1-1, while the Hawks fall to 1-5.
Chowan struck twice in the opening half to grab a 2-0 lead at the break. Ashley Bradford (Chesapeake, VA) took advantage of a pair of breakaways, the first in the 25th minute and the second two minutes later on a long pass from Katie Duncan (Hopewell, VA).
Catawba got a goal back four minutes into the second half as Maria Borland (Hagerstown, MD/N. Hagerstown HS) dribbled through the defense and found the net from 18 yards out. The equalizer came from Jessica Leroux (Ajax, Ontario, CANADA/Archbishop O’Connor), whose high arcing shot from 25 yards floated over the Hawk keeper in the 74th minute.
The Lady Indians controlled the second half and overtime. Catawba had all eight shots in the extra time. Wescoat finally ended things as she collected a ball in the goalie box and tapped home the winner.
