Men's Tennis Grabs 6-3 Victory Over J.C. Smith
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba picked up a 6-3 win over visiting Johnson C. Smith in men’s tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-0, while the Golden Bulls fall to 1-2.
Catawba took a 2-1 lead after doubles and got key three-set wins in singles by Uri Yarkoni (Kelowna, BC, CANADA/Okanagan) and Thomas Mitchell (Nanaimo, BC, CANADA) to grab the win. Yarkoni, at #2, won 6-4 in the third after splitting tie-breakers in the first two sets with McKenzie Bean. Mitchell lost a second-set tie-break then took the deciding set 7-5 at #3 over Aaron Hutchenson.
Mitchell also added a win in doubles. Joining Mitchell with singles and doubles wins were Shaun Bridgewater (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson HS) and Alex Kalmbach (Mason, OH/Mason HS). Jason Stuckey earned two points for the Golden Bulls.
