Women's Soccer Ties #7 Carson-Newman 1-1
JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- Catawba battled seventh-ranked Carson-Newman to a 1-1 tie in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday night at McCown Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 7-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the SAC, while placing the first blemish on the nationally-ranked Lady Eagles, who fall to 11-0-1 and 3-0-1.
Carson-Newman jumped out in front in the 34th minute on Trenna Howell’s (Oak Ridge, TN) ninth goal of the season, giving the Lady Eagles a 1-nil lead. Sandra Kaelin (Trachau, Switzerland) was credited with the assist. Catawba answered less than three minutes later, as Andrea Dunshie (Apex, NC/SE Raleigh HS) found the back of the net to equalize on her third goal of the season.
The Lady Eagles had several opportunities to take the lead in the second half and outshot Catawba 8-3 over the final 45 minutes and both overtimes but they could not capitalize. C-N held a 17-8 shot advantage for the match, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Lady Eagle goalkeeper Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario, Canada) collected three saves on the night, while Catawba’s Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) tallied five saves.
