Snyder's ninth win gives Baseball opening round winNEWBERRY, SC -- Catawba College sophomore pitcher Zach Snyder pitched a complete-game six-hitter to lead the third-seeded Indians to a 3-1 victory over No. 6 Wingate University in the first round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament at Kirkland Field. Neither team was able to get on the board until Wingate scored once in the top of the fourth inning. Bulldog senior leftfielder Andrew Romberger singled home senior second baseman Stuart James after James led off the inning with a double. Catawba answered quickly in its half of the fourth with two runs to take the lead. Senior catcher Mike Robbins drove home the first run with a single and senior leftfielder Israel Morrow drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly. The Indians added an insurance run in the seventh inning. Junior third baseman Blair Reynolds singled and scored on junior shortstop Chad Hillís double. Snyder allowed one earned run and struck out 10 for his ninth win of the season. Wingate starter Marc Church took the loss, dropping his record to 4-4. The junior went 3.2 innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. #####
