Catawba Selected to Host 2010 Super 2 Women's Golf Regional
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College has been awarded the 2010 NCAA II Super Region 2 Women’s Golf Tournament. The 54-hole event will be held from May 2-4 at the Country Club of Salisbury. The tournament will consist of nine teams and four individuals.
The spring tournament will likely feature some of the top ranked teams in the national poll. Last year’s national champions, Nova Southeastern, is currently the top ranked team this season and should be joined in the field by other traditional powers, Rollins, Florida Southern, Lynn, Barry and West Florida. Some of the local teams contending for spots include host Catawba, Newberry, Wingate, Carson-Newman and Belmont Abbey.
The top three teams and the top three individuals who are not members of a qualifying team will advance to the NCAA II Nationals. Nova, Florida Southern and Rollins advanced last season with all three finishing among the top five in the nation. Individually, Catawba senior Kelsey Babos, Pfeiffer’s Charlene Reid and Florida Tech’s Daniela Iocabelli qualified. Reid finished second overall with Iocabelli placing sixth.
