Women's Soccer Falls to #21 Tusculum

SALISBURY, NC -- Tusculum, ranked 21st in NCAA II, rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to pick up a 2-1 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference in women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field.  The Pioneers improve to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 9-4-2 and 3-2-1.

Senior Tasha Wilhelm (Mt. Savage, MD/Beall HS) put Catawba on top in the 32nd minute as she chipped a shot over Pioneer keeper Marjaana Kaaresvirta (Turka, FINLAND).  Kaaresvirta went on to make nine saves as the Lady Indians out-shot the Pioneers 22-12.

Tusculum equalized near the end of the half when Claire Duncan (Greeneville, TN) converted a penalty kick in the 41st minute.  The Pioneers went on top just before the hour.  Kayla Durden (Taylor Mill, KY) sent a pass to Tramicka James (Wilson, NC), who slid a through ball to Kourtney Kavic (Oakville, Ontario, CANADA) for the goal in the 59th minute.

Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) saved four shots for Catawba.  The Lady Indians also doubled up Tusculum in corner kicks, 6-3, but could not get on the board after Wilhelm’s early tally.
