Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to LMU

BARBOURVILLE, KY -- Lincoln Memorial scored a goal in each half to post a 2-0 win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Burch-Nau Field on the campus of Union College.  The Railsplitters improve to 8-2-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 4-9-1 and 0-5-1.

Lincoln Memorial took the lead in the 25th minute when the Railsplitters were on the receiving end of a hard foul in the box.  Senior forward Willan Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) converted the penalty kick for the 1-0 lead.

Catawba had four shots and all four of its corner kicks after the break, but could not penetrate the Railsplitter goal.  Aaron McKenna (Birmingham, England) iced the issue with eight minutes left as he slipped past two Catawba defenders and chipped a shot past the keeper for the 2-0 final.

Michael Watkins (Stateville, NC) had two saves in the match for LMU and earned for the shutout.  Catawba goalkeeper Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) recorded four saves.  LMU held a 18-9 edge in shots.
