Volleyball Holds On For Five-Set Win at Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, NC -- A late block and ace from Taylor Doss (Boonville, NC/Starmount HS) helped Catawba escape Shuford Gym with a win in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Wednesday night.  The Catawba Indians won by the scores of 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 19-25 and 15-11 to improve to 13-9 overall and 6-6 in the SAC.  The Bears fall to 17-10 and 3-7.

Catawba had overcome an early 5-3 deficit in the fifth set and led 9-8 when Doss combined with Alli Parrish (Zebulon, NC/Smithfield-Selma HS) for a block.  Her subsequent ace and a Lenoir-Rhyne error pushed the Lady Indian lead to 12-8.  A kill and block from Jasmine Chunn (East Bend, NC/Forbush HS) pushed Catawba to match point at 14-9.  The Bears held off the Catawba win on kills by Chelsea Hill and Jordan Ledford, but a hitting error gave the Lady Indians the match.
