Ivanovic Leads Women's Basketball With 20 Points in Exhibition at UNC-Greensboro
GREENSBORO, NC -- UNC-Greensboro topped Catawba 79-55 in a women basketball exhibition game on Saturday afternoon at Fleming Gym. Monique Floyd posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans. Kendra Smith had 16 points. Catawba was led by junior Milica Ivanovic (Belgrade, SERBIA/Sports High/Bethel) with 20 points.
Catawba suffered two long scoring droughts in the first half. The Lady Indians trailed 10-0 before freshman Elizabeth Merritt (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) put Catawba on the board with a pair of free throws 4:32 into the contest. Catawba trailed 25-14 with 8:49 left in the opening half, but scored only two more points before the break, coming on a pair of free throws by Jolysa Connor (Charlotte, NC/Waddell HS) with 4:16 to go.
The Lady Indians shot just 14.3% in the first half, hitting five of 35 shots in trailing 53-16. UNCG was canning nearly 54%, including 6-of-12 from long range. Smith had a dozen of her points in the opening frame. The Spartans also enjoyed a 32-19 edge on the boards.
Ivanovic heated up in the second half for Catawba, scoring all 20 of her points. She had seven quick points as Catawba got within 60-35 by the 11:12 mark. She hit a trio of three-pointers in a two minute span late in the contest.
Catawba hit on 15-of-29 (51.7%) shots in the second half, while UNCG connected on just 29%. Merritt led the Lady Indians with nine rebounds. Catawba had 18 turnovers, while causing 16. UNCG finished with a 56-37 edge on the boards.
