Volleyball Recieves Bid to NCAA II Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- The Catawba College volleyball team will head back to the NCAA II Tournament after being selected for an at-large bid into the Southeast Regional. The Catawba Indians enter the 64-team field as the #5-seed in the region. The Lady Indians (17-11) will face Carson-Newman (22-9) in their first match of the regional, which will be held at Wingate University.
Wingate (34-1) earned the top seed and won its fourth straight South Atlantic Conference Tournament, defeating Carson-Newman in the final. The Bulldogs will face Tusculum (17-14). Flagler (30-8), the Peach Belt Conference champion, will take on #7-seed Lees-McRae (28-5), the champion of Conference Carolinas. Defending regional champion and PBC Tournament runner-up Armstrong Atlantic (25-8) is the third seed and take on #6-seed Lincoln Memorial (21-9).
Catawba moved up one spot with its strong play in the SAC Tournament. The Lady Indians swept host Tusculum in the first round then took a set off top-seeded Wingate and fell 31-29 in the deciding fourth set. Freshman setter Jordan Raye (Boonville, NC/Starmount HS) was named to the SAC All-Tournament team. She was pressed into action after an injury to regular setter Megan Courson (Statesville, NC/W. Iredell HS) and totaled 67 assists, 17 kills and 21 digs in the two matches.
