Fields Named SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC ¬-- Catawba College's Rob Fields (Orangeburg, SC/Orangeburg-Wilkerson HS) has been named the initial South Atlantic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for 2009-10 for the opening week of play ending November 22, 2009. Fields helped the Catawba Indians to a 3-1 record over the first four games.
Fields scored 20 or more points in three of the first four games and was named MVP of the season-opening Highway 52 Shootout. The senior guard was key in the come-from-behind win over Pfeiffer on Sunday at the Salisbury Roundball Classic.
In the Highway 52 Shootout, Fields scored 21 points against Livingstone and followed that with 23 points against Cheyney. Against Pfeiffer, Fields scored six straight points to tie the game at 89-all with 2:31 left then put the Indians on top 93-91 on a jumper with 1:25 to go.
For the week, Fields averaged 19.8 points a contest and hit 52.4 percent of his shots from the floor. He connected on 44.4 per cent from three-point range and canned 96.4 percent at the line. Fields added 10 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals on the week.
