ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba's Wil Huneycutt (Locust, NC/W. Stanly HS) and Wingate's Dodson McPherson have been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending February 22. It was announced by conference officials Tuesday.
Huneycutt had a save and a win in Catawba's opening series at pre-season league favorite Tusculum as the Indians took two of three. In the opener against the Pioneers, the sophomore entered in the eighth with the bases loaded and Catawba ahead 8-3 and posted the final out. He then threw a perfect ninth for the save. In the final game of the series, Huneycutt got Catawba out of an inning when Tusculum scored five runs then tossed three shutout innings as the Indians rallied for the win. He recorded a career-best six strikeouts over those three and two-thirds innings. For the week, Huneycutt allowed just a single unearned run on three hits over five and two-thirds innings of work with eight strikeouts.

The Bulldogs are 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the SAC. McPherson got his week started by driving in two runs in the 6-3 win over Belmont Abbey. He went three-for-four with a homer, five RBI and two runs scored in the 16-11 non-conference win over LRU.
