HARROGATE, TN – Catawba and Lincoln Memorial split a South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader in a battle of two nationally ranked squads on Saturday afternoon at Hennon Field.  The seventh-ranked Catawba Indians won the opener 6-2, while the 24th-ranked Railsplitters picked up a 5-4 win in the nightcap.  Catawba now stands at 12-2 overall and 3-2 in the SAC, while LMU is 9-5 and 3-2.

The Railsplitters drew first blood in the opener with a run in the first on a RBI double by Cody Pack.  Catawba came right back with a pair of runs in the second and single runs in the fourht and fifth for a 4-1 edge.

Josh Hohn (Greensboro, NC/S. Guilford HS/N. Greenville) singled home the first run for Catawba and Corey Parker (Kernersville, NC/Glenn HS) added a sacrifice fly for the lead.  John Neese (Summerfield, NC/NW Guilford HS/Guilford Tech) homered in the fourth and Criage Lyerly (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) had a run-scoring single in the fifth.

LMU got a run back in the sixth as Pack scored on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Copeland.  The Indians then slammed the door shut with insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings to seal the 6-2 victory.  Clay Watson (Lexington, NC/N. Davidson HS) was wonderful in relief for the Tribe.  He stranded two runners in the sixth then tossed three shutout innings on just two hits.

Ryan Bostian (Kannapolis, NC/S. Rowan HS/Montreat) went 3-for-4 for Catawba, while Hohn had a pair of RBI.  Nathan Furr (Albemarle, NC/W. Stanly HS) improved to 4-0 with the win, while Watson earned his first save.  Gelson Perez enjoyed a 3-for-4 game for LMU,

The Railsplitters jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap.  After Juan Alvarez and Pack were both walked, Ben Adleburg blasted a three-run homer.  Catawba rallied to tie, picking up two runs in the second when Griffin Wise (Gastonia, NC/Forestview HS) and Wade Moore (Salisbury, NC/W. Rowan HS/NC State) crossed the plate after Lyerly hit into a fielder’s choice.  Neese tied the game up at 3-3 when he scored on an error.

Cody Baker put LMU back on top in the fifth with a two-run single.  Moore cut the lead to 5-4 when he scored off a single by Lyerly in the top of the seventh, but LMU held on for the 5-4 victory.

Adleburg and Pack led the way for the Splitters in game two.  Adleburg went 1-3 at the plate for three RBI, while Pack added two RBI.  Brandon Cowan picked up the win as he gave up four runs off of three hits and struck out nine in the complete game.

Catawba was led by Lyerly, who was 1-3 with three RBI for the game.  He has now reached safely in 49 straight games.  He also stole five bases in game two to tie a school record.  Nick Lomascola (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) went the distance for Catawba and struck out nine.
