WINGATE, NC -- Catawba and host Wingate shared wins in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Christopher Stadium.  Catawba claimed a 7-6, 11-inning win on a game resumed from Friday night then the Bulldogs posted a 21-9 victory in the second game.  The Catawba Indians are now 18-7 overall and 5-6 in the SAC, while Wingate is 11-7 and 8-3.

The Indians led the suspended game 5-4 after seven and half innings of play Friday night, but Wingate quickly took the lead when the game resumed.  After a two-out double by Chris Vazquez, pinch-hitter Tres Ramirez followed with a single to tie the game at five.  Wingate took the lead on an RBI double from Casey Allison.

Catawba loaded the bases in the ninth on a single by Craige Lyerly (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) and two hit batsman.  Pinch-hitter Brett Hatley (Salisbury, NC/W Rowan HS) drew a two-out, bases loaded walk to tie the game at six.  In the 11th, Ryan Bostian (Kannapolis, NC/S. Rowan HS/Montreat) drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on a single by Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS).

Wil Huneycutt (Locust, NC/W. Stanly HS) got the win, improving to 3-1 overall on the season.  He allowed two runs on three hits in four innings of work while striking out one.  He took over from Trevor Mullins (Jamestown, NC/Ragsdale HS/Appalachian St.), who threw seven strong innings on Friday, allowing four runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.

Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) led the Catawba attack, going 3-for-6 with a double, homer, three RBI and two runs scored.  Lyerly went 3-for-6 with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored, while senior outfielder Wade Moore (Salisbury NC/W. Rowan HS/NC State) was 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Logan Isaacs had a home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the Bulldogs.  Allison added a double, RBI and a run scored.

On Friday, Isaacs gave Wingate a 2-0 lead on a home run in the first inning.  Lyerly singled home Moore in the third to cut the Bulldog lead in half, but Wingate added two more in the bottom half of the inning.  Furr tied the game on a three-run homer in the fourth and scored on a double by Corey Parker (Kernersville, NC/Glenn HS) in the sixth for the 5-4 edge when the rains came.

In the second game, Wingate benefited from seven Catawba errors, breaking a 5-5 tie with a seven-run fourth and adding five more in the fifth.  Allison was 3-for-6 with two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored.  Jacob Karr went 4-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and four runs scored.  Dodson McPherson and Chris Vazquez each had two hits and two RBI, while scoring five times combined.

Furr continued his recent production with a double and three RBI.  John Neese (Summerfield, NC/NW Guilford/Guilford Tech) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Catawba Indians.

Catawba led after Moore led the game off with a home run, but the Bulldogs answered on a two-run homer from Karr.  Wingate took a 5-1 lead in the second with the help of a two-run double from Allison.  Furr tied the game in the third on a bases-clearing, three-run double.

An error opened the flood gate for the Bulldogs in the fourth.  The seven-run frame included a two-run dingle from McPherson, and two-run doubles by Taylor Honeycutt and Allison.  A home run by Josh Hohn (Greensboro, NC/S. Guilford HS/N. Greenville) and a RBI single by Underwood pulled the Tribe within 12-7, but Wingate pushed across four more runs in the fifth.
