Men's Basketball receives five committments

Catawba College men’s basketball coach Jim Baker has announced that five newcomers will join the Indians for the 2002-03 season. The Tribe earned commitments from Rokas Bartasius, of Kaunas, Lithuania, Brian Frasier, of Martinsville, VA, Helgi Magnusson, of Reylgarvik, Iceland, Jolly Manning, of Rocky Mount, NC, and Marcus Reddick, of Salisbury, NC, a transfer from UNC-Asheville. Bartasius, a 6-8, 205, center, played last season at Westminster Academy in Boca Raton, FL. He was an all-tournament performer as he helped the Lions to a 30-3 record. Frasier, a 6-0, 165, guard, was a starter at Martinsville High School. He was all-conference and the league Player of the Year as a senior. He also earned a spot in the Virginia All-Star Game. Magnusson, a 6-6, 200, forward, also played last season at Westminster Academy. He is a candidate for the Iceland National Team. Manning, a 6-4, 205, guard, was conference and area Player of the Year at Rocky Mount High School. He helped the Gryphons to a conference championship and played in the East-West All-Star Game. Reddick, a 6-4, 175, guard, red-shirted last season at UNC-Asheville. At North Rowan High School, he was a three-year starter and was nominated for the McDonald’s All-Star Game. He was an all-county, all-conference and All-Piedmont performer and helped the Cavaliers to a pair of conference titles. #######
