Big Nights From Artem And Tuohy Help Lacrosse Double Up Rollins
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba got five goals each from Marty Tuohy (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) and Braden Artem (Acton, Ontario, CANADA/Chris the King) in a 14-7 win over visiting Rollins in Deep South Conference lacrosse action on Friday night at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians level their record at 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the DSC, while the Tars fall to 3-6 and 1-3.
The Catawba duo combined for the game’s first goal with Artem collecting one of his three assists on Tuohy’s initial tally just 1:22 into the contest. Justin Wright (Manhattan, NY) and Austin Ricci (Winter Park, FL) gave Rollins the lead at the 9:16 mark on goals scored two minutes apart. Tom Cullop (New Windsor, MD/S. Carroll HS) tied the game with 6:24 left then Tuohy and Artem each scored in the final 2:24 of the quarter for a 4-2 lead.
Matthew Lunnen (Baltimore, MD) pulled Rollins within a goal early in the second quarter, but Catawba answered on goals by Cullop and Artem within 27 seconds of Lunnen’s tally for a 6-3 edge. Artem scored his fourth goal with 1:03 left in the third quarter to extend the Indian lead to 11-3. Rollins scored three of the next four goals, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Artem accounted for eight points with the five goals and three assists. Tuohy had five goals and two assists for seven points. Cullop had a pair of goals and two assists. Wright led Rollins with two goals and a pair of helpers. Ricci had one of each.
Rollins held a 33-29 edge in shots with Catawba goalie Michael Pecchia (Coquitlam, BC, CANADA/Heritage Woods) stopping 15 and allowing five goals. Zach Cole (Rumford, RI) saw most of the action in goal for the Tars and recorded six saves.
The Tars also held a 47-33 advantage in ground balls and won 13 of 25 face-offs. Each team scored a pair of man-up goals, Rollins in five attempts and Catawba in six.
