SALISBURY, NC -- Senior Brett Hatley (Salisbury, NC/W. Rowan HS) limited visiting Belmont Abbey to one unearned run over seven innings to help Catawba grab a 9-1 win in baseball action on Tuesday night at Newman Park.  The Catawba Indians improve to 24-7, winning for the 11th time in 12 games.  The Crusaders fall to 14-18.

Catawba got offensive support from Ryan Bostian (Kannapolis, NC/S. Rowan HS/Montreat) and Corey Parker (Kernersville, NC/Glenn HS), who each provided three hits and three RBI.  Parker had three doubles, including one that drove in two runs with two-outs in the fourth to give the Indians a 4-0 lead.  Bostian doubled home three in the sixth with two outs to extend the margin to 8-0.

Hatley, making just his second start of the year, allowed just five hits with no walks.  He posted six strikeouts and improved to 2-1.  Justin Baxley (Marianna, FL) had two of the hits for Belmont Abbey.  Spencer Sobol (Palm City, FL) scored the lone run for the Crusaders on a sacrifice fly from Tim Dye (Clermont, FL) in the seventh.

Bostian led off the Catawba second with a single and scored the game’s first run after a single by Josh Hohn (Greensboro, NC/S. Guilford HS/N. Greenville).  Parker doubled home a run in the frame for a 2-0 edge then added his two-run double in the fourth.

Craige Lyerly (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) doubled to open the fifth to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 66 games.  He moved to third on a swinging bunt single by Bostian and scored on hit by John Neese (Summerfield, NC/NW Guilford HS/Guilford Tech).  Bostian then pushed the margin to 8-0 before the Crusaders got on the board.  Zeb Link’s (Woodleaf, NC/W. Rowan HS) solo home run in the eighth accounted for the final run.

Link, Lyerly and Hohn each had two hits for the Tribe, who collected 15 as a team.  Trevor Mullins (Jamestown, NC/Ragsdale HS/Appalachian St.) and Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) each tossed a perfect inning of relief to close out the game.
