McGinnis joins women's basketball staff

Catawba College women's basketball coach, John Duncan, has announced that Erin McGinnis has joined the program as assistant coach. McGinnis, of Oak Ridge, TN, comes to Catawba from Indiana University, where she graduated in May with a bachelor of science degree in continuing studies with minors in sociology, kinesiology and business. McGinnis played two seasons at Indiana and earned a tryout with the WNBA Miami Sol. While at Indiana, she earned honorable mention Big Ten honors in helping the Hoosiers to the league championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. She started 30 games last season, averaging just over 12 points and six rebounds a game, and led the Big Ten in free throw shooting at 84.3%. McGinnis posted three double-doubles and missed a triple double against Washington by three assists. Before transferring to Indiana, McGinnis played two seasons at Auburn, where she was a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. During her two seasons, she helped the Tigers to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. McGinnis was a WBCA/Nike All-American and a two-time Miss Tennessee Basketball at Oak Ridge High School. The Parade All-American was a three-time all-state selection, helping her team to a 65-5 record over her final two seasons and a state title as a senior. #####
