Moore and Neese Lead Baseball to 11th Straight Win
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba cranked out six home runs, including a pair by Wade Moore (Salisbury, NC/W. Rowan HS/NC State), in a 20-8 victory over visiting Barton in baseball action on Wednesday night at Newman Park. The 26th-ranked Catawba Indians extend their winning streak to a season-long 11 games and improve to 29-7. The Bulldogs fall to 19-23.
Moore finished the game 3-for-5 with two homers, a double, five RBI and three runs scored. He upped his season average to an even .500. John Neese (Summerfield, NC/NW Guilford HS/Guilford Tech) and Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS) also had three hits each in the 20-hit Indian attack. Neese was a single short of the cycle and had four RBI.
Ryan McCleney (Chadbourn, NC), Ryan Daughtry (Princeton, NC) and Matt Willis (Wilmington, NC) each collected three hits for Barton. Daughtry homered and scored three runs. Zac Crumpler (Wilson, NC) had a home run and three RBI.
Catawba scored in every inning except the first. Corey Parker (Kernersville, NC/Glenn HS) put the Indians on top with a double in the second and Moore followed with a three-run homer. Catawba swatted three homers in the third, including back-to-back shots by Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) and Neese to open the frame. Moore capped the inning with his second round tripper of the game and an 8-0 lead.
Braxton Lewis (Seven Springs, NC) doubled home two runs for Barton in the fourth, but Catawba scored six times in the fifth to put the game away. Crumpler and Chris Dorman (New Bern, NC) hit back-to-back homers for Barton in the eighth as the teams combined for nine home runs. Also homering for Catawba was Craige Lyerly (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) and Brett Huffman (Salisbury, NC/W. Rowan HS).
