Softball Regular Season Ends With Doubleheader Losses at LMU
HARROGATE, TN -- Catawba was swept by host Lincoln Memorial 7-2 and 7-0 in South Atlantic Conference softball action on Saturday afternoon at Neely Field. The Lady Railsplitters improve to 27-19 overall and 5-11 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians end the regular season at 29-21 and 5-11.
Catawba rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the opener and tied the game in the sixth. Allie Marshall (Pleasant Garden, NC/SW Guilford HS) singled home the first run and Tara Gibbs (Waynesville, NC/Tuscola HS) got the tying run home on a ground out.
Lincoln Memorial struck right back in its sixth, scoring five times. Ashley Legge put the hosts back on top with a solo home run with one out. After an error, the Lady Railsplitters collected four straight two-out hits to pad their lead. Carly Sabat (Warren, OH/Howland HS) and Mollie Kovalcin (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe HS) had a pair of hits for Catawba.
Meghan LaFevor threw a five-hit shutout to complete the sweep for LMU. She added a hit and drove in two runs at the plate. Jackie Adams and Joy Grills each had two hits for the Lady Railsplitters. Sabat, Marshall, Gibbs, Kovalcin and Brittney Thornburg (Kings Mountain, NC/Kings Mountain HS) had the hits for Catawba.
