Men's Soccer Moves to 2-0 With Win Over USC Aiken
SALISBURY,NC -- Catawba claimed a 3-1 win over visiting USC Aiken in men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-0 on the young season, while the Pacers fall to 0-2.
Freshman Corey Faughnan (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) put the Indians on top miway through the first half, taking a cross from Deon Cuffie-Joseph (Arima, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO/High Point U.) at the 24:25 mark. Carson Smith (Mooresville, NC/Mooresville HS) added to the lead six minutes into the second half off an assist from Ezra Ntirugelegwa (Durham, NC/Jordan HS).
In the 64th minute, a feed across the box from Matt Gallagher (Chapel Hill, NC/Saint Leo) was deflected by the Pacers for an own goal and a 3-0 Catawba advantage. Aiken denied the Indians a clean sheet off a corner kick in the 75th minute. Carson Villa drove home a loose ball from Schevon Joseph.
Catawba held a 14-10 edge in shots with an 11-5 advantage in the second half. Luke McCarthy made four saves for the Indians for his second win. Andray Charles stopped five shots for the Pacers.
