Volleyball Drops Three-Set Match to LMU

SALISBURY, NC -- Lincoln Memorial grabbed its first league win of the season with a three-game sweep of host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym.  The Lady Railsplitters improve to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the SAC with the 25-22, 25-22 and 25-21 win.  The Catawba Indians fall to 4-3 and 1-2.

Blaire Fowler (Fort Worth, TX) and Ashley Knight (Palm Harbor, FL) each had a dozen kills to lead LMU.  Fowler added four blocks.  Kaitlin Walton (Muncie, IN) also reached double digits in kills with 10.  Katie Moran (Northville, MI/Northville HS) led Catawba with seven kills, while libero Jenny Young (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry HS) posted 18 digs.

Up 14-12 in the opening game, two kills by Fowler and an ace by Knight pushed Lincoln Memorial to a 17-12 edge.  Catawba was able to get within 23-22 after consecutive kills by Melanie Slack (Chapel Hill, NC/E. Chapel Hill HS), but Fowler got LMU to game point on a kill then Catawba committed an attack error.

A five-point run early in game two gave the Lady Railsplitters a 7-3 lead.  Catawba battled back to lead 16-15, but a kill by Knight and a combo block from Fowler put LMU back on top.  Consecutive blocks by Kaitlin Posnak (Clearwater, FL) upped the edge 21-17 with Walton killing off the final two points of the game for the Lady Railsplitters.

Catawba held an 18-15 lead in game three after a kill by Alli Parrish (Zebulon, NC/Smithfield-Selma HS), but two kills by Knight and a combo block from Fowler tied the score.  Fowler had a kill for 22-20 LMU lead and a pair of Lady Indian errors led to a match point.  Lauren Kiwacka (Tipp City, OH) would kill off the final point.
