Bless Scores Pair of Goals as Women's Soccer Shuts Out Chowan
MURFREESBORO, NC -- Catawba College got two goals from Athena Bless (Asheboro, NC/SW Randolph HS) and shutout host Chowan 4-0 in women’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Hawks Soccer Field. With the win, the Catawba Indians improve to 2-1, while Chowan falls to 0-2.
Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic) put in Catawba’s first goal as she beat Hawk keeper Kristy Brown in the 23rd minute. That would be the lone goal of the opening half with Catawba controlling the action, taking 16 shots to just two for the Hawks.
The Lady Indians kept up the pressure in the second half, taking all 25 shots of the stanza. Bless gave Catawba a two-goal cushion just past the hour as she tallied in the 62nd minute with a shot under the keeper.
Catawba came right back just over three minutes later as Sydney Robertson (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS/W. Carolina) buried a cross from Andrea Dunshie (Apex, NC/SE Raleigh HS). Bless finished up the scoring with just under 10 minutes to play.
Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) played the first 67 minutes in goal for Catawba and made one save. Kailey Johnson (Hampstead, NC/Topsail HS) finished out the match and was untested. Brown recorded 10 saves for the Hawks.
