Women's Soccer Gets Third Shutout, Settles For 0-0 Tie
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba and Limestone failed to score over 110 minutes of action as the teams finished in a 0-0 deadlock in women’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians now stand at 2-1-1, while the Saints fall to 1-3-1.
Catawba held a 22-7 edge in shots and had a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. Limestone had an early chance after a shot hit off the post and Ashley Alderin-Fleagle (Kernersville, NC) fired her rebound back on to goal, but Lady Indian defender Alexa Baird (Plainfield, NJ/Mt. St. Mary’s Academy) cleared it off the line. Catawba’s best chance in the first half was saved by Saint keeper Kristen Alderin-Fleagle (Kernersville, NC), leaping to her right to stop a shot from Marissa DiMarco (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern HS).
The Lady Indians had the best of the second-half chances and held a 10-2 edge in shots. Catawba failed on several corners to put loose balls through a clogged goal mouth and Alderin-Fleagle stopped a hard shot from a tight angle by Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic). Conte had the final chance for either team, but her header in the dying minutes was saved.
Alderin-Fleagle recorded 10 saves for Limestone. Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) had one save in posting her second shutout.
