Volleyball Swept by Tusculum
GREENEVILLE, TN -- Tusculum stayed undefeated in league play with a three-game sweep of visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Pioneer Arena. The Pioneers won by the scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 tom improve to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 4-4 and 1-3.
Tusculum’s Sam Underwood recorded eight kills, 13 digs and served a match-high five aces in the battle between two programs that advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament a year ago. As a team, the Pioneers finished with 13 aces, including three by Tori Welker and two each from Bailee Price and Melanie Gibson
TC’s Alyssa Raterman accounted for a .375 hitting percentage and four blocks, while rookie setter Ashley Sarmiento added 30 assists, eight digs and a service ace in the victory. Price and Caitlyn Dean led the Pioneers with 14 digs each, while Allyson Ray recorded seven kills and a .364 hitting percentage.
Jenny Young (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry HS) led the Catawba defensive efforts with a match-best 19 digs, while the setter duo of Megan Courson (Statesville, NC/W. Iredell HS) and Alli Parrish (Zebulon, NC/Smithfield-Selma HS) finished with 11 and 10 assists, respectively. Freshman Anna Logan (Yadkinville, NC/Mt. Tabor HS) totaled six kills and four blocks, while Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co. HS) tallied six kills, eight digs and two blocks.
