Women's Soccer Makes Early Goal Hold Up in 1-0 Win
CHARLOTTE, NC -- Catawba junior Erinn Wescoat (Egg Harbor, NJ/Absegami HS) scored just over two minutes into the match and the Lady Indians made the lone goal hold up in a 1-0 win over host Queens in women’s soccer action on Wednesday night at the Queens Sports Complex. The Catawba Indians improve to 4-1-1, while the Royals fall to 3-4.
Catawba recorded its fifth consecutive shutout in posting the win and extended its scoreless streak to 471 minutes. The Lady Indians have allowed just one goal this season which came in overtime in an opening loss to Belmont Abbey.
Wescoat’s early goal, just 2:26 in, was assisted by Alyssa Retundie (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS). Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) turned back four shots in posting her fourth clean sheet. Each team had seven shots with Catawba holding a 9-3 edge in corners. Megan Hirschy had one save for Queens.
