Clayton ties record; Women's Soccer opens with shutout

SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College women’s soccer team opened its season with a 5-0 shutout of visiting St. Andrews on Wednesday afternoon at Frock Field. Junior Jamie Fink (Woodbridge, VA) scored two first half goals to lead the Lady Indians. It was the opener for both teams. Catawba dominated play over the first half and Fink broke the scoreless tie in the 19th minute as she collected a pass from Megan Mainer (Raleigh, NC), mad one move past the keeper and fired into an empty net. Fink added a second goal in the 31st minute, while freshman Maran Bock (Avondale, AZ) guided home a goal from the back post off a cross from fellow freshman Kyley Thompson (Hagerstown, MD). The Lady Indians held a 25-2 edge in total shots for the game and had 13 corner kicks to none for the Knights. Thompson and Mainer scored second half goals for Catawba, while Kim Clayton (Haw River, NC) recorded the shutout in goal. It marked the 22nd career shutout for Clayton, tying her with Scherrie Dalton for the Catawba school record. Erin Tudhope (Longwood, FL) made a dozen saves in goal for St. Andrews ST.
