Men's Soccer Shutout by Anderson
ANDERSON, SC -- Clement Samson scored seconds apart midway through the first half to help host Anderson to a 4-0 win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium. Anderson improves to 6-4-1 overall and 1-2 in the SAC, while Catawba drops to 5-3-1 and 0-2.
Lasse Sohrweide put the hosts on top at the 13:03 mark when Aldo Lopez-Gil found the forward open on the left side and Sohrweide lifted the shot over the outstretched arms of Indians’ goalkeeper Luke McCarthy (Naples, FL/Naples HS).
Samson gave the Trojans a three-goal lead with his scores in the span of just a few seconds in the 26th minute. He scored an unassisted goal by working in from the left side and squeezing his shot in just past the post, then moments later he took a feed from Sohrweide and his shot found the right side of the net.
Anderson put the game out of reach less than six minutes into the second frame on Ryan Messick’s goal off an assist from Zach Denson. The Trojan defense held Catawba to just five shots on the afternoon, while AU recorded 17 attempts, including 13 shots on goal. McCarthy made nine saves. Each team also posted just one corner kick, with each coming in the second half.
