Blake Paces Men's Golf to 3rd Place at Montevallo Intercollegiate
CALERA, AL -- Catawba finished third among six teams at the Montevallo Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament which concluded on Tuesday. Montevallo hosted the event at the 6,745-yard, par-71 Timberline Golf Club. Elliot Blake (Norwood, NC/S. Stanly HS) led the Catawba Indians as he finished fifth overall with a total score of 146, shooting rounds of 74 and 72.
Montevallo rallied to take the team title by two shots over West Georgia. Montevallo had a final day 291 to finish at 589. West Georgia had a 300 on the final day for a 591 total. Catawba shot 606. Blake finished four shots out of the lead with his 146. Blake Watts, an individual from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, won a playoff over Bryn Powers, of West Georgia, for medalist honors. Evan Kilchenstein (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Curley) and Brad Cline (Thomasville, NC/E. Davidson HS/UNCG) had opening rounds of 72 and finished 12th and 13th, respectively.
