SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba sophomore Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co. HS) tallied 19 kills and 13 digs to lead the Lady Indians to a five-game win over visiting Newberry in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Catawba Indians won by the scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 22-25 and 15-7 to improve to 8-9 overall and 3-6 in the SAC. The Wolves fall to 10-9 and 3-6.

Catawba rebounded to take the next two games. The Lady Indians never trailed in game two althought the game played within two points much of the ay. Catawba used a late four-point run to secure the win. Catawba hit 40.5% and was lead by Anna Logan (Yadkinville, NC/Mt. Tabor HS) with five kills.
In the third game, Catawba was down early at 9-6 before starting a comeback. Behind the serving of Logan, the Lady Indians scored four straight points to gain a 12-10 lead. Catawba stayed on top after that with Whitmer posting four of her seven kills of the game over the final six points for the Lady Indians.
The Wolves rallied to take game four and force the final fifth game behind the attacks of Samantha Parrish and Sarah Scott. The duo each posted five kills. Whitmer added six kills in the game for Catawba, but no other Lady Indian could tally more than one kill.
