Dunshie Gets Goal as Women's Soccer Ties Tusculum 1-1
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba and visiting Tusculum fought to a 1-1 draw in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians now stand at 6-6-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the SAC, while the Pioneers are 8-6-1 and 3-3-1.
The even battle saw Tusculum hold a 14-11 edge in shots with the Lady Indians having a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Andrea Dunshie (Apex, NC/SE Raleigh HS) controlled a cross from Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Trinity Catholic) in the 21st minute to score her first goal of the season to put Catawba on top early.
Tusculum rallied in the second half, holding a 7-3 edge in shots in the period. The Pioneers finally broke through with Tramicka James (Wilson, NC) tracked down a ball from Amber Marceau (Grayson, GA) that bounced over the Catawba defense. James was able to knock home her 15th goal of the season into an empty net with 17 minutes left.
Neither team could break the tie in the extra 20 minutes. Catawba had a 2-1 shot advantage and took the only two corners of the overtime. Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) recorded five saves for the Lady Indians, while Rachael Jennings (Asheville, NC) stopped four shots in goal for Tusculum.
