Rolle Named SAC Football Defensive Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba cornerback Jumal Rolle (Wilson, NC/Beddingfield HS) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 24. Wingate quarterback Cody Haffly earned offensive honors, while Lenoir-Rhyne kicker Colin Corpe was selected for special teams. It was announced by the league on Monday.
Rolle helped stop two Newberry drives with a forced fumble and an interception as Catawba rallied for a 28-25 win at Newberry. Down 17-7 in the second quarter, the sophomore caused a fumble at the Catawba eight to prevent the Wolves from increasing their advantage and take a commanding lead. On the ensuing Catawba possession, the Indians scored to cut the margin to 17-14 at the half. Early in the fourth quarter, Rolle had an interception in the end zone to end another Newberry threat and keep the Indians up 28-17. Rolle finised the day with four tackles, forced two fumbles and had an intereception.
Haffly completed 23-of-32 passes for 379 yards and a career-high (tying) five touchdowns as Wingate rallied for a 44-37 triumph over Brevard. Haffly and the Bulldog offense scored 35 second-half points in the win. Corpe tied his own school record with four field goals in Lenoir-Rhyne's 34-31 win over Tusculum.
