SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba outlasted visiting Lenoir-Rhyne to post a four-game win in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym.  Shay Meeks (Kings Mountain, NC/Kings Mountain HS) tallied 20 kills to pace the Catawba Indians, who won by the scores of 26-24, 21-25, 25-20 and 28-26. Catawba improves to 11-12 overall and 6-9 in the SAC, while the Bears fall to 12-12 and 5-10.

Game four saw a dozen ties and eight lead changes before Catawba finally put the match away by scoring the final three points, coming on a kill by Meeks and two more from Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co. Catawba pulled ahead 18-14 in the final game following a kill by Whitmer, but Lenoir-Rhyne rallied.  A kill and block from Chelsea Hill (Lexington, NC) was followed by an ace from Cantu to trim the margin to 18-17.  After a Whitmer kill, the Bears got a kill from Christenbury and a Catawba attack error to tie the game at 19-all.

The Lady Indians were the first to get to match point, going on top 24-22 after kills by White and Emily Richardson (Salem, VA/Salem HS).  Lenoir-Rhyne drew even on kills from Cantu and Hill then took the lead on a ball handling error.  The teams traded service errors before Meeks tied the game and Whitmer converted her consecutive kills to end the match.

Catawba pulled out a tight first game, scoring the final three points on kills by White, Meeks and Taylor Doss (Boonville, NC/Starmount HS).  Christenbury sparked a Lenoir-Rhyne rally from a 19-16 deficit with consecutive kills then tied it at 20-all on her third kill in four Bear points.  Kills from Christenbury, Hill and Cheyenne Cash (Shelby, NC) kept the Bears in front until the final push by Catawba.

Lenoir-Rhyne got kills and a combo block from Christenbury and Cash in a three-point run to go up 12-9 in game two.  Raye would post two kills in a run that saw Catawba go back on top 14-12.  The Bears answered with a four-point run that was capped with a block and kill from Cayla Crawley (Bryson City, NC).  Lenoir-Rhyne stayed on top from there and used an ace and kill from Cantu in a 5-0 run that brought the Bears to game point which came on a kill from Christenbury.

A five-point spurt, which came on four Bear errors and an ace by Richardson, gave Catawba the edge in game three at 18-13.  A kill by White upped the lead to 20-14.  The Bears pulled within 21-19 on a kill and block from Crawley, but Meeks killed off consecutive points to put Catawba up 23-18.  The teams traded points from there with Catawba getting its points on kills from Raye and Meeks.
